Kimora Lee Simmons Goes Reality TV July 17, 2007

Filed under: fashionistas unite!, the telle — flashyjazzy @ 12:27 am

My favorite channels, The Style Network, late last nite, I saw a commercial for a new reality show based on Kimmora Lee Simmons that will be airing this summer. The series will show us how the Diva goes through her day-to-day routines. How she handles her company, Baby Phat. And see how she unwinds when it gets to hectic.

Kimmora: Life In The Fab Lane is set to premiere on Sunday, Aug 5th @ 8/7 c. The Premier show will be a special one-hour show where we’ll catch Kimmora creating a major new advertising campaign and discussing the details of the top-secret Kimora Lee Simmons Barbie doll.

When you hear the Simmons name you automatically think power, mogul, or a renaissance.

Definitely something I’d like to see made it to reality. I think the African American community needs more positive toys for our children. Having a daughter, I only want her to have black dolls, so that she doesn’t get brainwashed with the thought that being black is not beautiful or less than any other race. I’ve already thrown away a white doll that she got as a gift.

Kimmora has always been a woman that I respect and somewhat admire. Seeing her as one of the only women who looked different, but still held on to her ‘Blackness’, I always felt like we had something in common. When she did the VH1 Special, InsideOut: Kimora Lee Simmons presents NY Fashion Week, and she explained how kids would make fun of her because she was different, I laughed because I dealt with that so much, that I now expect to be looked at in that peculiar way.

So, with my 2¢ about Kimmora Lee Simmons added. Check out her reality series on The Style Network (check your local listings).

Ladies, A Few Kicks For Us July 13, 2007

Filed under: fashionistas unite!, kicks & more kicks — flashyjazzy @ 7:40 am

I was hesitating about posting these sneakers (for no reason imparticular), I feel in love as soon as I saw them though. Already owning a pair of Blazers, these sneakers have a retro look to them but with a modern spin. & they are comfy :)

Anyhoo, check out the collab Nike did with graffitti artist & fashion designer CLAW Money (who happens to be… A GIRL!!!!) for a limited edition pair of Blazer kicks. There are 3 colors that will be available: Zest/White and Pink Fire, Flame Red/White and Ice Blue, and Black on Black with Anthracite.

The pattern will contain CLAW Money’s signature three taloned “mark”. Creating a sneaker that is feminine, with an eyelet pattern to go along with CLAW’s signature ‘paw’ print.

This collab is said to be living up to the ‘Nike and street art’ philosophy, which they have been doing since day one. The CLAW Money sneakers is set to hit select retailers this summer.

Nike x CLAW Money will be teaming up again to debut part 2 of the collaboration with a limited edition pair of Vandels HI in October.

Nike recently dropped the Womens Air Force 1 ‘07 Low Premium NYC- City Edition/ Nike Air Force 1 XXV Anniversary shoe. Theses joints are FIRE!!! Made up of a neutral grey crocodile pattern - that reflects, joined by white, azure (bright blue) sole, yellow bottom, and a hot pink heel. Definitely a HOT sneaker.

This sneaker dropped on June 23rd, 2007. They start running @ about $100. The best place to find them is probably here or eBay.

Then there’s the Womens Air Force 1 ‘07 Low Supreme NYC - City Edition/ Nike Air Force 1 ‘07 Supreme XXV Anniversary sneaker also comes in another color. Having the same white reflective base pattern, these sneakers have a beige sole, with a pink & blue two-tone bottom, and a beige heel.

You can get these sneakers here.

New Balance has been dropping some serious heat. And these sneakers are definitely smokin’. Collaborating with the French companies LA MJC & COLETTE they have brought a birthday collaboration with La MJC for their 6th Anniversary. Last year, La MJC designed the 100th Anniversary sneaker for new Balance, so i guess it was only right that the favor was returned.

Say hello to the New Balance 1500

Said to being limited to only 150 pairs. You can try and get your hands on these sneakers @ Sold Out & Colette. They run for 150.00€ which converts to $198.37.

Yes, they are not cheap, but… I will keep my eye peeled for some good deals and great buys when it comes to sneakers. Being a sales whore and a sneakerhead, I can honestly say that i will try to stay true to my word.

Nonetheless, I hope you’ve enjoyed!

Chillin’ In The Shade, Drinkin’ A Glass Of Lemonade June 13, 2007

Ain’t No Half Steppin’…
You need some shades, Man!!!

Stussy, one of many clothing brands that I like to call Urban Couture, has some eyewear out. And just like their shirts, these shades are ‘Fresh To Def’.

If you are a man and you are Hip Hop and you don’t know about Stussy, get from under your rock and find out about them. They are one of the ‘IT’ brands to have in your waredrobe.

Since I’m a girl, and I believe that detail is what makes the outfit. Accessorize!!! Add a smooth touch to shorts and a t-shirt. Sunglasses. If you were glasses, stepped it up a notch and get make your shades prescription shades, so you can be stylish and be able to see the girls watching, even if you’re the one who knows that your shades are prescriptions. Only people who care about you worry about your health. Strangers just like to see Eyecandy, shit who doesn’t.

Now the Stussy brand is not cheap, hence why I say it is Urban Couture. Couture is by far not cheap.

The sunglasses range from about $80 - $100, Not that bad…

Want to see more?
Check out Stussy
Or 80s Purple (they have the full Summer 2007 eyewear line and their prices are cheaper)

Note to the Ladies… Get your man a pair of Pimp’d out shades as a gift. They’ll make anyone feel important

Vera Wang for Kohl’s May 11, 2007

Filed under: fashionistas unite! — flashyjazzy @ 9:30 pm

So it looks like Kohl’s has taken some notes from Target and got Vera Wang to design a line of affordable wear. I think Kohl’s is trying to out do the Target collabrations, because Vera Wang’s line, Simply Vera, will include everything from clothing, accessories, eyewear, and housewear. I think the twist to Vera Wang’s collabration vs. Target’s current collabrations with Proenza Schouler and currently with Patrick Robinson, is that Vera Wang’s line includes far more pieces- it has way more variety. To me, eyewear is the ticket. The housewear sounds were interesting also, I can’t wait to see what Vera Wang has to offer.
The line is set to be available some time in September. Apparently, the clothing line will have signature features that you see in Vera Wang collections: tulle detailing, roses and ruched belts. The clothing line will range around $30-$70, but some pieces maybe in the $150 range. The sizes range from 2 to 16, which I also like. simply_vera_03.jpgI’m was really surprised to hear that Vera Wang was doing something with Kohl’s, because just a few months ago I read that there was like a bidding war to get her to work with Liz Claiborne’s parent company and another company - I forgot the name. Come to think of it- it may have also been Kohl’s offering her a deal of some sort (Sorry).
Personally, I thought Isaac Mizrahi was on to something when he teamed up with Target a few years ago. I see that Target and many designers believe the same thing. It’s fun to see what these designers can create at an affordable price. Isaac Mizrahi seems to have just launched a Bridal line at Target.
If you haven’t checked out the Proenza Schouler, they have some remaining pieces on clearance. The designer that they are featuring now is Patrick Robinson, I personally do not find anything in his collection that grabs me.
How do you feel about these desinger collabrations with the newly emerging department stores?

UPDATE: VERA WANG’S LINE IS EXPECTED TO LAUNCH THIS SUNDAY. SOME OF THE GIRLS OVER @ NITRO:LICIOUS WERE ABLE TO VIEW SOME OF THE AVAILABLE PIECES, BUT KOHL’S TOOK IT OFF OF THE SITE. HOWEVER, KEEP YOUR CREDIT CARD NEAR BY ON SUNDAY F YOU GO TO THE WEBSITE. I ALWAYS LIKE TO GO TO THE STORE, BUT WHERE IS THERE A KOHL’S?? ONLY ONES I KNOW OF ARE IN QUEENS…

can we take it back to the ol’ school?? May 3, 2007

Filed under: fashionistas unite!, kicks & more kicks — flashyjazzy @ 8:50 pm

I’m an 80’s baby- literally- I was born in 82′. Some of you readers were teenagers or lil’ kids in the early 80’s. Some of you weren’t even developed in your Pop’s balls yet.
But I thought I would introduce my blog with some paid homage to the year of 1982.
In the 80’s Hip-Hop was climbing the ladder of recognition and many New Yorkers were enjoying the rhyming skills of a few rappers like Busy Bee, The Furious Five, and The Cold Crush Brothers to name a few. And the producer of the hour was none other than Fab 5 Freddy.
In 1982, Reebok came out with the Freestyle Reeboks a.k.a 54-11’s. They came in every flavor- All colors of the rainbow.
Well this year is the 25th anniversary of the Freestyle Reebok and they have some serious flavors to celebrate turning 25!!
We all know how the Freestyle Reebok got its name… I’ll give a crash course in the term 54-11’s…
The Freestyle Reebok were always priced at $49.99 and with tax they would cost $54.11 hence the name 54-11’s
Unfortunately, with age there comes bills and the Freestyle Reebok does not cost $54.11 anymore. It’s more like $69.99 -$199.99.
But I guess for good reason. They have some really funky styles, which I think is a wise marketing approach to a retired shoe.
BasquaitMy personal fav is the “Original Basquiat” they are one of the priciest, but it screams original, unique, and trendsetter. Not to mention that Jean- Michel Basquiat is one of my favorite contemporary artists. I have magnets of his artwork on my fridge. Jean-Michel Basquiat was half Haitian & half Puerto Rican. He was introduced to the arts by his mother who enrolled him in the the Children’s Arts program at the Brooklyn Museum. He was very good friends with Fab 5 Freddy and had a brief relationship with Madonna. He was also good friends with Andy Warhol- another great contemporary artist.
There will be more of the Freestyle Reebok’s 25th Anniversary sneaker released throughout the months and I can only imagine what they have to offer us.
If you had a pair of 54’s in your closet, I’d say grab a pair of anniversary edition Freestyles and pay homage to one of the staples in your adolescent wardrobe!!
