The long awaited 2nd season of The Boondocks is set to premiere this Fall on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.
UPDATE: NEW SEASON WILL AIR MONDAY, OCT 8TH @ 11:30P
Since the beginning of the year we were expecting the 2nd Season of the popular cartoon. With a premiere date for June of this year, the air date was pushed back to this October. During this year’s Comic Con in San Diego (see my review on the Comic Con Conference -here) , they announced a few storylines from the 20-episodes lineup.
Colonel H. Stinkmeaner, who died in the hands of Robert “Granddad” Freeman (John Witherspoon) in the previous season, will be resurrected in time for the series Halloween Special. The episode will feature The Exorcist and The Shining-related gags, with Stinkmeaner taking over District Attorney Tom Dubois’ (Cedric Yarborough) body.
Eight-year-old Riley Freeman, voiced by Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Regina King, will sign up for the basketball team that Tom is set to coach.
Uncle Ruckus (Gary Anthony Williams), a homely and overweight man who enjoys disassociating himself from anything African-American, will star in his own reality show next season.
Gangstalicious (Mos Def), whose real name is Frederick, will be returning to the series. He is most known for the hit single, “I Got Shot,” which he performed on the sixth episode. Towards the end of the same episode, it was revealed that Gangstalicious was once romantically involved with a gangster named Lincoln.
Also making a comeback next season are Iraq war veterans and best friends Gin Rummy (Samuel L. Jackson) and Ed Wuncler III (Charles Q. Murphy).
Aside from all the character developments, the crew also said that an episode titled “The N Word” will be shown, with a teacher using the term in reference to Riley. Given that the second season of the animated series was in development for a significant amount of time, the crew clarified that the episode was produced prior to the eruption of controversies surrounding the use of the word by white celebrities.
Lastly, fans can also expect to hear the voices of Ghostface Killah and Snoop Dogg in the upcoming season of The Boondocks, although it is not yet known which characters they will voice.
