Adidas: Something For The Ladies Pack August 22, 2007

Filed under: fashionistas unite!, kicks & more kicks — flashyjazzy @ 8:58 am

adidas-something-for-the-ladies-pack-1.jpg

I hope I can get my hands on just one of the three pair of sneakers below. Said to be released as a Pack, Adidas has introduced the “Something For The Ladies” pack. Featuring the massively chunk, awesomely bright Metro Attitude, the colourway is perfect. ( I have a nice wool Penguin sweater that would go real nice with the Metro Attitude Hi joints above :) Look @ me scheming already!)
All three shoes feature the unusual, bee hive like design of the hexagon shapes highlighted on different parts of each shoe. Whether you fancy the chunk of the Metro Attitude, the wafer-ness of the silver streak low or the old school flavour of the shell toe, there is something for all the ladies, whatever mood she’s in.
Over @ Sneaker Freaker, they said that the sneaker is great for the hot summer, but seeing as the Summer fell like the Fall, and the Summer will soon turn into the Fall, we must see past the cute outfits of the Heat & look to what we can pair these babies with for the Fall Season. There is no release date for the pack as of yet. When I find one I will post it. The Adidas Online Store has no mention of it as well, so this is sneaker connoissuer news and everyone @ this time will have the same thing… Just Pictures

UPDATE:
Unfortunately, it looks like there is no online outlets to buy any of these kicks. Sometimes, certain retailers get new shipments, but it may be in a year or two. I say that because, the Adidas Grace Mid, in the pastel colorways was @ Urban Outfitters, but they sold out so freakin’ fast. Almost a year later Urban Outfitters had them again, and they sold a bit slower. So I say that to say, I will check every few months, because I check for kicks all the time, but if they are not available, I won’t post any updated information – which I think is fair.

Black August This Sunday 8.26.07 August 22, 2007

Filed under: concerts & events — flashyjazzy @ 8:07 am

The 10th Annual Black August Hip Hop Project will be kicking off at a new venue this year. This Sunday @ The Nokia Theater, you can catch artists like
Mos Def
Twalib Kweli
Saigon
D Nice
Dead Prez
DJ Evil D
and more

I do not know what the venue will allow this event to be like. For the past 3 years or so Black August has been held at B.B. Kings. And the venue is usually sold out.

Black August: A celebration of Hip Hop and our Freedom Fighters is a project of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM), which strives to support the global development of Hip Hop culture by facilitating exchanges between international communities where Hip Hop is a vital part of youth culture, and by promoting awareness about the social and political issues that affect these youth communities. Our goal is to bring culture and politics together and to allow them to naturally evolve into a unique Hip Hop consciousness that informs our collective struggle for a more just, equitable and human world.

Since August of 1998, Black August has held sold-out benefit concerts in New York City, South Africa, and Cuba. In New York, Black August has been held at Tramp’s (1998) The Bowery Ballroom (1999), the New Age Cabaret (2000), Synod Hall (2001 and 2002), Brooklyn Café (2003) and B.B Kings (2004,5,6).

The tickets are $30 and still on sale at Ticketmaster. Click here to purchase. Or go to a Ticketmaster Outlet.

UPDATE: IF YOU CAN”T MAKE THE CONCERT, THERE WILL BE AN AFTERPARTY @ ARENA IN TIMES SQUARE. PEEP FLYER BELOW

The Boondocks 2nd Season Forecasted For This Fall August 21, 2007

bo070820.gifbo070821.gif

The long awaited 2nd season of The Boondocks is set to premiere this Fall on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.

UPDATE: NEW SEASON WILL AIR MONDAY, OCT 8TH @ 11:30P

Since the beginning of the year we were expecting the 2nd Season of the popular cartoon. With a premiere date for June of this year, the air date was pushed back to this October. During this year’s Comic Con in San Diego (see my review on the Comic Con Conference -here) , they announced a few storylines from the 20-episodes lineup.

Colonel H. Stinkmeaner, who died in the hands of Robert “Granddad” Freeman (John Witherspoon) in the previous season, will be resurrected in time for the series Halloween Special. The episode will feature The Exorcist and The Shining-related gags, with Stinkmeaner taking over District Attorney Tom Dubois’ (Cedric Yarborough) body.

Eight-year-old Riley Freeman, voiced by Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Regina King, will sign up for the basketball team that Tom is set to coach.

Uncle Ruckus (Gary Anthony Williams), a homely and overweight man who enjoys disassociating himself from anything African-American, will star in his own reality show next season.

Gangstalicious (Mos Def), whose real name is Frederick, will be returning to the series. He is most known for the hit single, “I Got Shot,” which he performed on the sixth episode. Towards the end of the same episode, it was revealed that Gangstalicious was once romantically involved with a gangster named Lincoln.

Also making a comeback next season are Iraq war veterans and best friends Gin Rummy (Samuel L. Jackson) and Ed Wuncler III (Charles Q. Murphy).

Aside from all the character developments, the crew also said that an episode titled “The N Word” will be shown, with a teacher using the term in reference to Riley. Given that the second season of the animated series was in development for a significant amount of time, the crew clarified that the episode was produced prior to the eruption of controversies surrounding the use of the word by white celebrities.

Lastly, fans can also expect to hear the voices of Ghostface Killah and Snoop Dogg in the upcoming season of The Boondocks, although it is not yet known which characters they will voice.

Lauryn Hill Speaks… Well, sorta August 20, 2007

Filed under: concerts & events, reviews, tunes — flashyjazzy @ 6:53 am

I was speaking with my boy, Subtitled Opus, & we were talking about Ms. Hill & her past performance @ Wingate Park 2 weeks ago. We both heard mixed reviews. We I speak with my other friends, everyone seems to know this or that, but all of the facts about Ms. Hill are sketchy.
•Pras said there won’t be a Fugees Reunion, due to Ms. Hills schedule/ attitude (something to that factor)
•She has an album coming out in 2008
•Rohan left her
•She has 5 of his children (It’s four- check her Myspace page to see)

I found this interview on youtube posted on August 2nd and I thought it was juicy, kinda.

Many rumors are circling her name. There are plenty of fans who are expecting the old Lauryn hill from 10 years ago to re-emerge and do the Hollywood shuffle like she’s never left the stage. Let’s all remember that she was WAY different when she did the MTV Unplugged set 6 yrs ago. There’s no way she is going to be the Old Lauryn. We have to allow her to experiment, yes on our dime & time. Why, you ask? Because if you are a true fan of someone you are a fan of their musical talent. Being a true fan entails you to expect that artist to try new things. Sometimes artists/ musicians are too talented. You may hear a song they wrote sung by someone else. Not getting off the subject., Ms. Hill is making a comeback having only had 1 solo album and 1 Fugees album under her belt.
Whatever drove her to getting back on the stage and in the studio we ALL have to appreciate, because she is giving us SOMETHING, which we all know is better than NOTHING.
And I will say this last thing before I depart…

Ms. Hill and Dave Chappelle are a lot alike. How ironic that he was the one who got the Fugees to reunite. But what I mean when I say they are alike is, because with their great gift of talent, with the fame and success, they could not handle the transition that their lives would go through. Both of them deserted a undoubtably successful careers. And we the fans are very critical in how we rate their performances after leaving us screaming for more. But we have to support the Black artist – at least the ones who have something worth hearing. As crazy as Lauryn maybe we have to give her a chance to get comfortable back in the limelight and expect the rewards to be promising when she gives us beautiful music. – I hope I don’t have to eat my optimistic words, :)

Music Alert ~ Natasha Bedingfeld August 19, 2007

Filed under: tunes — flashyjazzy @ 8:54 am

press_03_img.jpg

For quite sometime I have been wanting to know if the song “Unwritten”, the theme song for the MTV show “The Hills”. It sounds like Pink, but it’s not!

Her name is Natasha Bedingfield. Being compared to Christina Aguilera and Pink ( I was close), she has been topping the Billboard Charts in the UK, and here in the states. Having a #1 single in the US, and a #1 UK debut album, and over 6.5 million units shifted worldwide, Natasha Bedingfield is the UK’s biggest female pop star. Last year, Natasha had the first British chart topping hit in almost twenty years.

She is a force to be reckoned with. Her talent has gotten her invited by her hero Prince to jam with him at a private party; her song ‘Unwritten’ proved to be the most played song on mainstream American radio in 2006.

Her first album, released in 2004, got her recognition, for the outspoken lyrics on her take on life. Her sophomore album N.B., she explains as:

“I want to make music that matches who I am. My first album was about independence and opportunism. I’m still very independent and I find it hard to let go of that freedom, but I’m in a different place now. I’ve been dating, searching for a partner, looking for Mr Right…”

Her sophomore album, N.B., is THE Break-up album. Just the titles alone, make any girl feel like they have therapeutic tunes to mend their heart. But to hear her voice & lyrics, makes the experience – comforting.

Proving that affairs of the heart, although difficult, make for excellent song-writing material. Each track on the album explores a varying stage of the ‘relationship’ story, and the issues, experiences, and processes that come with these stages: from the lonely place of never feeling like you will fit with anyone (Soulmate), through the flirting, dancing stage where you feel you might (How Do You Do?), to the moment at which the game playing ends and open honesty prevails (Say It Again).

N.B. forthcoming single ‘I Wanna Have Your Babies’, due to be accompanied by a colourful and entertaining video from Dave Meyers (Pink, Missy Elliot, Outkast). Lyrically, ‘I Wanna have Your Babies’, touches on a female’s fight to reign in their natural disposition to ‘rush into things’ in an effort to find that elusive ‘one’, that potential father to their children. Musically it is distinctly ‘Natasha Bedingfield’ – the voice to melt radios, the beats that drop either side of the Atlantic, the arrangements that are undeniably quirky, but still, somehow, work.

Currently, Natasha is on tour with Justin Timberlake – who this past Thursday performed @ Madison Square Garden.

NYC Is The Placed To Be August 19, 2007

Filed under: concerts & events, reviews — flashyjazzy @ 12:02 am

So after years of living in the NYC a.k.a the Melting Pot. I made my way over to one of the most popular clubs in the city on it’s most acclaimed nites, Wednesday.

APT, located on 13th Street off of 9th Ave, in the Meat Packing District. With a line with a wait of 10 – 20 mins, depending on how crowded it is inside. We got there after 2 am & it was so crowded you could feel the heat seeping outside on an Mid – August nite. Luckily, we just hopped to the front of the line, but we still waited. Seeing the almost forgotten R&B Singer, Maxwell (minus the hair & rocking a pair of specs), Baby Lover – R.Kelly rolled in with his entourage (adding another 10 mins to our wait), Ali Shaheed Muhammed – from A Tribe Called Quest, who happened to be meeting his friend, Q-Tip who was guest spinning.
839353930_l.jpg

Apt has two floors. The first floor looks like a loft apartment, different colors and decor for each room. The second floor ( the lower level) is where it’s at!! Wednesday nites are usually Dj’d by Rich Medina. If you don’t know about this guy, you have to here him. He has been dj’ing for well over 5 years. Know in the Independent, Afro Beat, & House Music sector. You can find plenty of mix cd’s with Medina spinning. I’ve loved the guys work for a couple of years now. Him and Mark Ronson have came a long way.

So we get downstairs, after Security @ the door tells us we can’t go downstairs, because it’s reached its capacity. And it’s so hot that when you brush up against people to get through the crowd, you are greeted with an arm or back drenched in sweat. Good Party?? You think!!!

Q-Tip had the crowd jumping. Spinning 70’s Classics, Old School Hip Hop, Afro-Beat, and of course House Music. And the rest is history. If you want to go to a hopping party on a Wednesday Nite. If you want to go to a party and dance your ass off on a Wednesday Nite – Go to APT.

Year Of The FALL August 15, 2007

Filed under: concerts & events — flashyjazzy @ 2:28 pm

With almost every artist we can think of doing summer performances. As fans we hope for one of two things: 1.) Whom ever we are paying to go see does not suck, and can perform well live, 2.) Whom ever we are paying to see puts on a good stage performance.

Well, for 4 artists they got 1 out of 2 right.

Having been on stage and in the element of their performance, they somehow lost their footing and fell… SMACK!!!!!!

The Game

Lupe Fiasco

Beyonce

Kelly Rowland

Poor Babies. Hope no one else falls this year.
